Here are a few before and afters cuz they are so much fun to see
The success of the kitchen has highlighted some problems that we think were masked by the fugliness of the old kitchen. For instance: the bad paint job near the ceilings and beams that my poor husbo broke is back paractically on a rickety old ladder doing. Also- the grain of the wood paneling with the paint in the livingroom isn't really cutting it for us anymore, though we do love the paneling in the dining and hall.
That paneling in the livingroom is a different material and just doesn't look as good painted. The biggest ick now, is that built-in shelving in the livingroom handmade by the previous owners or some randome 13 year old boys they may have hired. It's more busted than Britney on a binger, dirtier than John Mayer's bed, and falling apart faster than Meg Ryan's latest face job. (sorry Meg, but Susan Sarandon rocks it way harder than you and she is 15 years older) After you see the clean, solid and well constructed kitchen, it makes all the small issues we had in the other rooms stand out. We are going to temporarily paint it the built in white to "blend" in more so you don't stare at it right away, until we can get a new one built that looks good. And yes, we may end up drywalling that area. We will keep the other areas with the wood.
Priorities, Priorities though...we have SOOO many projects and only so much dough.
pics coming soon!

Lord but your kitchen is beautiful. May I ask where you got your cabinets? I will do a kitchen make-over as soon as I have the moola, and I'm truly impressed with what you did. It's sooooo gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThanks Terry, you will be happy to know that those cabinets are none other than IKEA abstrakt high gloss white. I will also say that even with the contractor, plumber and labor the entire thing with supplies including brand new appliances came to under 10K.
ReplyDeleteIt was my first "reno" so I was happy with the way it came out, and our contractor had never done this style of kitchen so I was a bit nervous. We were supposed to be working on our bathroom by now, but we have pushed it (because of his schedule) to October now. Stay tuned, and thanks for reading my blog!
Shopping for deals online really saved me money as well as knowing what to splurge on (range) and what to save on (IKEA cabinets) etc.
